Jane Pound

FULL-TIME COMPETITIVE TEACHER

Jane Pound has been educating students in classical ballet in the Toronto area and across Canada for the past 35 years. Jane is an early graduate of Canada’s National Ballet School Teacher Training Program, 198. There she was exposed to the Cecchetti, Vaganova, French and Bournnoville methods. After graduation, Jane continued to teach while dancing professionally in companies and as freelance artist. Jane joined the Faculty of Toronto’s City Ballet School ( Marijan Bayer, Artistic Director) and the Society of Russian Ballet. Since that time she has taught at Claude Watson School for the Arts (North York), The Bayview School of Ballet (Toronto: Bella Kovarsky, Artist Director), The Nichol’s School (Buffalo, New York), Halifax Dance (Nova Scotia), The Bermuda Civic Ballet Company and the Woodbridge School of Dance (Gilly Chaplin, Artist Director). Jane was instrumental in creating the first dance program and syllabus for the City of Bramalea, Department of Recreation. Ms. Pound opened the Bradford School of Dance in 1998 and together with her business partner, Hilary Whittaker) expanded the school to its current location in Bradford Ontario. A second school was opened in Barrie in 2008, The Barrie School of Dance.

Jane holds her Associate teaching certification in the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance, Checchetti Method and in National Dance. Has graduated from the Bolshoi Academy of Moscow, Level A, B and C. In 1995 Jane was appointed as executive member and examiner to the Society of Classical Ballet, Vaganova Method. In 2015 Jane became the Chairman for the Society.

Ms. Pound revamped the Affiliate program for the Society of Classical Ballet and is currently tutoring and mentoring Ballet instructors, virtually all over the world.
